Holy Salad: food for thought

“LET US DRAW near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.  LET US HOLD unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.  And LET US CONSIDER how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, LET US NOT GIVE UP meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but LET US ENCOURAGE one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:22-25)

Inspired by the above passage, I titled this blog “Holy Salad” because it has “let us” (aka. lettuce) and various ingredients sprinkled on to give us the nourishment we need for our souls and for those around us.  Are verses “toppings” to you or do you experience real flavor of every ingredient with each morsel of God’s Word?

For those who know me or have been following my blog posts, I love puns too!!😊

LET US DRAW – the closer we get to God, the more intimate the experience.  The heart softens, the tears may fall, and the posture may be humbled and one of submission.  Yet in that space we feel stronger than we have ever felt because it is His strength and power by which we kneel in our hearts. We feel the cool sprinkle of His blood over our sin stained hearts and with only a sprinkle, we are washed clean again.  Refreshed and ready to move forward on our journey.

Will you dare to draw near to Him?

LET US HOLD unswervingly.  Don’t let go.  You think the tips of your fingers will hurt because you are holding on so tightly, but they really don’t.  Your flesh is lying to you, it always does.  Your heart is holding on to His, He is the shadow to your soul.  Be still in this space He says, just let go of your thoughts.  Let Him hold your heart in a way like no one ever has.

Will you dare to hold Him like that?

LET US CONSIDER how to spur one another on toward love and good deeds.  Not ones you want others to do but as you consider others better than yourself, trust them to be used by God and for His purposes.  Think deeply about the other person and bring them to the throne of Grace where you enjoy a deep peace that can only be given to you by The Father.  Consider how you might hold a heart and draw that person to the Christ you have come to know and love.  Splash onto them the love and compassion that was sprinkled on you.

Will you dare consider how God might use you in this way?

LET US NOT GIVE UP joining others in community.  Don’t make it about your story, make it about what God can do in and through you as you join others.  Put the pain and pride aside and do not give up the fight for what is right, true, noble, good, just.  You are needed in the Kingdom to build the Kingdom with your story.

Will you dare to not give up for the sake of Christ and the salvation of another?

LET US ENCOURAGE one another and lift hearts to the Throne from which we find comfort.  Build one another up in the LORD and not in the flesh.  Take comfort in how God has made you and brought you this far in your story and share that encouragement as a testimony of God’s goodness and faithfulness in your life.

Will you dare encourage another more than you have received?

REFLECTION:

  1. Take time to answer the questions.
  2. What ingredients would your “salad” have in it?

Thank you for joining me on this journey!
